Kotoko tame Wa All Stars

Mohammed has had a frustrating season for the Porcupine Warriors, failing to meet the expectation in scoring the needed goals, but against Wa All Stars, he finally broke the jinx in memorable manner, scoring the winner which would also be Kotko’s 200th home goal in the GPL.

Desperate to end their frustration of not winning more at home this season, Kotoko began on a high note and got an early goal though Obed Owusu and piled on the pressure on Coach Enos Adepa’s charges who, themselves were keen on returning to winning ways.

The victory for Kotoko was memorable in many ways as it was Owusu’s first goal for Kotoko this season as he headed home beautifully, a well taken corner kick from Emmanuel Gyamfi to put them in the lead which they held on to the second half.

Yakubu also had his moment of joy when he increased the tally for Kotoko as he maintained his cool and tapped in a birlliant shot a few metres from the edge of the box to send the sparse crowd at the stadium into jubilation.

That boosted the confidence of Kotoko, who then stepped up the pressure, probing for more goals, and at a point became complacent, and paid for that as the visitors  managed to get a consolation from Kwaku Asuandzie’s strike on the 78th minute.

In a solo effort, he caught the Kotoko defence absent-minded and dared them with a run, lifting the ball over the head of goalkeeper Felix Annan for the goal.

“It has been a frustrating season, but I’m happy that I scored and I’m sure the entire team is relieved,” Mohammed said of the win which lifts Kotoko from fifth to the fourth position with 29 points.
