Kotoko boss ready to accept Fabin back

The Executive Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Dr Kwame Kyei, says he is surprised that the club’s head coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin, tendered his resignation last Thursday, but says he is ready to accept him back.

Coach Fabin, who replaced Steve Polack who was sacked in February, resigned from his position with five months remaining on his existing contract with the Porcupine Warriors.

The former Black Starlets coach cited personal reasons for his surprise resignation, barely hours after supervising the team’s training at their Adako Jachie grounds.

Stunned at the coach’s resignation, Dr Kyei revealed that the club was at the time contemplating a contract extension for Fabin.

“If the coach thought something was not right, he should have called to tell me. So I’m quite surprised at his actions,” Dr Kyei told Kumasi-based Fox FM yesterday.

“I gave him one year [contract] but upon observing him, I realised he could do the job so I was ready to give him another contract. If he rescinds his decision I am ready to accept him.”

Fabin’s sudden decision to part ways with the club came on the heels of some impressive performances in recent friendlies, including back-to-back victories against arch-rivals Accra Hearts in the ‘G2’ challenge, and a 3-2 home win against regional rivals Ashantigold last Sunday in Kumasi.

His resignation has forced Kotoko’s management to call off the second leg friendly with Ashgold at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.
