Kotoko: Barreto, Gyamfi hit with bans, fines by GFA

Kumasi Asante Kotoko duo, coach Mariano Barreto and captain Emmanuel Gyamfi have been handed separate bans and fines by the Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee after they were found guilty of misconduct.

Barreto was handed a two-match ban and a GHS 3,000 fine for making offensive statements and allegations about the performance of match officials while Gyamfi received a one-match ban and a GHS1,000 fine for stamping on an opponent during a match.

Barreto

The Portuguese coach made allegations against the referees who handled Kotoko's tie with Legon Cities, stating that his played 11 against 15.

He was charged for a breach of Article 38(8)(c) and 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019 in respect of violations of the Associations Regulations.

He is also alleged to have made verbally offensive statements about the performance of the referees by stating that the referee only makes mistakes against Asante Kotoko SC, a statement made without proof and brings the game into disrepute.

Barreto pleaded not guilty and stated that his comments were misconstrued because he was referring to the 11 players and the 3 substitutes players of Legon Cities FC who played the match.

However, the Committee said his evidence unconvincing and found him guilty of the charges.

Barreto was also warned that any future misconduct shall receive a more severe punishment.

Gyamfi

The Kotoko skipper was charged for a breach of Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019 for stamping on an Inter Allies player Andy Okpe in an off the ball incident.

He pleaded guilty with an explanation, saying Gyamfi was reactionary.

The GFA found him guilty and warned that any future misconduct shall receive a more severe punishment.
