Kevin-Prince Boateng retires from football

Former Ghanaian midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36.

Boateng's football journey has spanned multiple clubs across Europe over the years, encompassing a notable stint at AC Milan and even a spell at Barcelona. His career has seen him represent a total of 15 clubs in the continent.

In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram account, Boateng confirmed his decision to hang up his boots, expressing his deep connection to the sport.

"I LOVE YOU. But that’s a WRAP for me. Thank you FOOTBALL for everything," he wrote, conveying his gratitude for the game that has been such a significant part of his life.

The German-born Ghanaian had most recently been associated with his childhood team, Hertha Berlin, where his career came full circle as he began and concluded his time in professional football.

Throughout his illustrious career, Boateng amassed an impressive record of 520 appearances at the professional level. His contributions on the field included 76 goals and 56 assists. Notably, he secured five prestigious trophies, notably including the Italian Serie A title and the DFB Pokal.

On the international stage, Boateng donned the jersey of the Ghanaian national team, making 14 appearances. While his time with the Black Stars was relatively brief, he had the honor of representing Ghana in two World Cups. Unfortunately, his international journey was marred by disciplinary issues, leading to his relatively short tenure with the national squad.
