Karim Starboy chairs RTU IMC

The newly-appointed chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Real Tamale United (RTU), Alhaji Karim Sani Mahama, alias Karim Starboy, says his immediate task will be to revive the club and build a winsome team to win the Division One League (DOL) and ensure a return to the elite division, where they truly belong.

Starboy, a legend of RTU, was mandated to head the new IMC at a stakeholders meeting held in Tamale to find ways of reviving the club.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports, Karim Starboy said RTU was a brand and the pride of the Northern Region so it is important to breathe a new lease of life into it to reclaim their lost glory.

“It is disheartening that despite being such a great club in the north, RTU find themselves in the lower ranks of Ghana football. There is an urgent call to get the club back on its feet and humbly, I accept that responsibility as the leader of the IMC.

“Our priority will be to reorganise the support base, recruit good and competent players who can compete and win the DOL so we can rejoin the Premier League, where we truly belong, he said.

“We hope to achieve this by moving away from the old way of doing things but rather blend tradition and modern ways of running a club. For now, we want our supporters to have a sense of belonging, not just supporting with words but physical support in cash as well”.

He expressed his gratitude to the Northern Regional Minister, the Chief Patron of the club, who had promised to mobilise funds to support the operations of the club, and called for unity among stakeholders to help the club realise its goals for the season.
