Rising Ghanaian table tennis talent Joanita Borteye is preparing for another major international challenge as she gets set to represent Ghana at the 2026 ITTF African Championships in Tangier, Morocco, from October 18 to 25.
Borteye earned her place at the continental event through the ITTF World Rankings and will be looking to build on her growing international experience as she faces some of Africa’s leading players.
The young Ghanaian has already competed at the senior African Championships, making an appearance at the 2025 edition in Tunis, Tunisia.
The experience will provide a valuable reference point as she returns to the continental stage with greater exposure to the demands of senior competition.
Borteye has also enjoyed significant success in youth table tennis. In July 2026, she teamed up with Israel Aklie to win the U15 mixed doubles title at the ITTF-Africa Youth Championships in Accra. Their victory over Tunisia in the final secured Ghana’s first gold medal at a major African table tennis championship since 1987.
Her domestic performances have further underlined her potential. At the Damba Table Tennis Championship in May 2026, Borteye won both the Under-19 Girls and senior Women’s Singles titles, defeating Cynthia Kwabi in the senior Women’s finals.
As she prepares for Tangier, Borteye will be aiming to turn her experience and recent progress into a strong performance against the continent’s established players. The championship presents another opportunity for the young Ghanaian to test her level internationally and continue her development on the senior stage.
