Joe Dodoo

Is Rangers loanee Joe Dodoo's honeymoon period over at Charlton Athletic?

Rangers striker Joe Dodoo scored on his debut for League One Charlton Athletic - but we've heard that before.

Joe Dodoo could not have made a better start to life as a Charlton Athletic player. It took just 22 minutes for the Rangers loanee to open his account for The Addicks with a cool finish in their 4-3 win at Oldham Athletic at the start of the month.

Quick, direct and blessed with an eye for goal, the former Leicester City youngster wasted no time winning over Charlton supporters. Just a few weeks later, however, and the honeymoon period is in danger of being called off already.

Dodoo has played just 42 minutes of action in the three league games since that goalscoring debut and made next to no impact coming off the bench in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Gillingham.

The fact that Charlton boss Karl Robinson appears unwilling to give him a chance from the start, despite The Addicks being forced to navigate three league fixtures in the space of just seven days, may set a few alarm bells ringing.

After all, it’s not the first time Dodoo has started strongly before falling away.

Leicester supporters thought they had a star on their hands when a 20-year-old Dodoo blew Bury away with a hat-trick on his first senior appearance in the EFL Cup back in August 2015.

He also scored twice in his first three games for Rangers last season before waiting another nine games to hit the back of the net again.

Charlton fans will be hoping that the talented Dodoo discovers what has been missing throughout his short career so far – consistency.
