Immigration shows class

The Ghana Immigration Service men’s table tennis team defeated Police 3-0 to emerge champions in a special knockout tournament held at the D.G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Stadium last Saturday.

Tesano Spinners female team thrashed their counterparts from the Ghana Army 3-0 to win the female category of the event.

Immigration received GH¢2000. Police got GH¢1000, Emefs were rewarded with GH¢500 for placing third, while GRA settled for GH¢300.

Tesano Spinners female team were rewarded with GH¢1,000. Army took home GH¢700 while third place GRA received GH¢300, with Immigration going home with GH¢200.

Supervised by the national chief coach, Anthony Owusu-Ansah, the competition was sponsored by Stanbic Bank and Graphic Communications Group Limited, publishers of the Graphic Sports, to prepare players for the upcoming league and also discover new talents.

The Chairman of GTTA, Mawuko Afadzinu, said the competition would be held periodically and its scope widened to attract more people.

 

He stated that ping-pong was growing fast and appealed to the government and corporate bodies to make the sport, which used to be a national pastime a few decades ago, more vibrant.
