Hughton, 60 others apply for Black Stars job

Black Stars technical advisor, Chris Hughton, is among a list of over 60 coaches who have applied to coach the Black Stars.

The position of the national team job became vacant following the resignation of Coach Otto Addo after Ghana’s first round exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking to Asempa FM, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, confirmed that on a daily basis, the FA’s email is flooded with applicants who express interest in the job.

He explained that the senior national team had become one of the most attractive brands on the continent, adding that the request to fill the vacant position started the very day Coach Otto Addo handed in his resignation.

“The Black Stars is one of the most attractive brands on the continent. Every single day you open the GFA email, you will see someone has applied for the Black Stars coaching job,” he revealed.

“Maybe over 60 applications. The Black Stars is very attractive. You cannot have Mohammed Kudus in your team and think the Black Stars is not attractive. It is an attractive brand, no doubt about that.

“Even the very day Coach Otto Addo confirmed he was leaving, we had coaches expressing interest in the job," he stated.

“I’m never surprised that coaches are constantly applying. Most of them are from European countries and some too from South America," he further disclosed.

The Black Stars are expected to regroup in March for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
