Accra Hearts of Oak say they are prepared to allow their prized goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, to leave the club if they receive a suitable offer for his services.
A highly placed source at the club told the Graphic Sports yesterday that contrary to reports that Hearts had been reluctant to part ways with the goalkeeper, the club had not received any formal offer from an interested side.
The 34-year-old Black Stars goalkeeper attracted considerable attention following his sterling performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with reports suggesting that some European clubs were monitoring his situation.
Asare became the first locally based goalkeeper to play a full 90 minutes for Ghana at a FIFA World Cup and impressed in the Black Stars’ encounter with England, denying several of the European side's key players, including Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.
His performance sparked speculation about a possible move abroad, with many fans questioning why he remained with Hearts despite reports of interest from foreign clubs.
However, the source dismissed those reports, insisting that no club had formally approached Hearts with an offer for the goalkeeper.
“If he got a good offer and the club would benefit, why won’t we allow him to go?” the source said, stressing that Hearts would not stand in the way of a player's career progression.
The source said the development and advancement of players remained a major concern for the club and that Hearts would encourage any opportunity that would benefit a player.
“He [Asare] wants to advance his future too, so if we are approached formally and the offer is good, we will definitely negotiate with the people,” the source added.
“We are not in a situation to hold on to him or dictate to the person, but if the offer is not good, we can’t let him go,” he said.
Asare has established himself as Hearts' first-choice goalkeeper and one of the country's leading shot-stoppers, with his performances for both club and country attracting growing attention.
