Hearts of Oak set to part ways with Gladson Awako
Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Gladson Awako is set to depart the club by mutual consent, two years after joining the side from Great Olympics.
According to reports, Awako has agreed to part ways with the Phobians ahead of the commencement of the 2023/24 season despite having a year left on his current deal.
Awako signed a three-year contract with Hearts in August 2021 --- a transfer that caused controversies between the two rival clubs.
The 32-year-old established himself as an essential component for the Phobians, assisting the club to win the MTN FA Cup and the President Cup.
As an experienced figure with the Hearts team, Awako was announced skipper of the side following the departure of longtime captain Fatawu Mohammed.
Awako remains one of the most experienced players in the local league having played for the likes of Berekum Chelsea, Heart of Lions, and Great Olympics among others.
He also played for African giants TP Mazembe and had a short stint with US-based club Phoenix Rising.
