Hearts contemplate another foreign coach

Accra Hearts of Oak could fall on their partnership with TSG Hoffenheim and FC Cincinnati to help them with the recruitment of a new coach.

Ghana’s premier club, Hearts, has been without a substantive coach since the exit of Serbian trainer, Slavko Matic, in March this year, with Assistant Coach, David Ocloo, taking charge of the rest of the premier league matches in a caretaker role.

Former Asante Kotoko coach, Prosper Nartey Ogum, has emerged as the leading candidate for the vacant position. While Hearts officials would not rule out the possibility of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League-winning coach taking charge, they are keeping their options open and strategically exploring the resources and expertise offered by their foreign partners to ensure they secured a competent coach to lead the team into a successful future.

Speaking in an interview, a Hearts insider told Graphic Sports that the club’s handlers could turn to their two foreign partners for support should they fail to land the services of a local coach, which was the management’s preference.

“The club wants to see if it can get some technical men through the partnership with FC Cincinnati and Hoffenheim, but management’s first option is to get a local coach,” the source stated.

The source further explained that even though the club had not officially expressed interest in the former Kotoko gaffer, he was top on the list of those to be considered for the position.

“He [Ogum] is a good coach and would be a good addition to the club but no one has spoken to him yet, and when the club wants to appoint a coach, he would be considered.”
Even before the club recruits a new manager, the club’s management plans to send the current technical staff for an attachment with German second-tier league outfit Hoffenheim to acquire new knowledge and experience ahead of the start of the next season.
