Hamza Obeng rues painful Kotoko defeat

Asante Kotoko stop-gap coach, Hamza Obeng, has described his side’s 1-0 defeat to Swedru All Blacks as painful, but says the team will return to the drawing board to correct their mistakes.

The Porcupine Warriors conceded a last-gasp penalty, converted by Wiafe Darkwah in the 95th minute, to hand the hosts all three points in their Ghana Premier League encounter last Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Obeng expressed disappointment with his players’ inability to maintain control during their build-up play, noting that their frequent loss of possession undermined their performance.

“It’s a very painful defeat, and I will say we will go back to the boardroom and correct our mistakes. Today we couldn’t get much control with our build-up. We kept losing the ball in our build-up, and that didn’t help us,” he said.

Despite the setback, the Kotoko coach urged his side to accept the result, learn from their shortcomings and focus on the positives as they prepare for their next assignment.

“It’s part of the game, so we will take it in good faith, work on the negatives, build on the positives, and we will take it from there,” he added.

The defeat denied Kotoko the opportunity to build on their previous 1-0 victory over Karela United, leaving Obeng and his technical team with work to do as they seek to improve the team’s performance in the coming matches.
