GVA congress postponed

A special body will be constituted by the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA) to decide within one month the status of Article nine and 13 of the   GVA constitution.

Disagreements over the eligibility of some voters resulted in an abrupt end of an elective congress to choose new executives for the association last Saturday at the Ghana Olympic Committee offices in Accra.

Rival supporters of  incumbent president, Mr Paul Atchoe and Mr Edward Owusu of the Ghana Army, both contestants for the top position, almost came to blows over the right  interpretation of the two articles, which covers the eligibility of voters at the congress.

Article nine (clause one) of the constitution deals with membership of the association,  while Article 13 takes care of who is eligible to vote and be voted for.

At the Congress last Saturday observed by Deputy Director (Technical) of the National Sports Authority, Mr Saka Acquaye helped to calm down tension following heated arguments by the rival camps.

After three hours of heated argument and tantrums, it was decided that a committee be set up to clarify those two articles in the constitution.

Aside the top two contenders for the position of the president,  Mr George Tettey is the sole contender for the vice president position, while for the position of treasurer, Edem Dotse Devine will battle Raphael Rodger Debra.
