Giving the assurance in the company of his vice, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, during a visit by the bereaved family at the Graphic offices last Friday, Mr Afadzinu noted that Joe Quansah lifted the flag of Ghana high in his heyday and was an inspiration to many players, hence the need to give him a fitting farewell.

“Joe wasn’t an ordinary person; in his time he lifted the flag of Ghana high and was an inspiration to many table tennis players in the country,” he recalled.

He empathised with the bereaved family for the loss of the former national asset and promised that the GTTA would sit down with the family to see how best the deceased’s memory could be preserved.

For his part, Mr Ashigbey, who doubles as the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, stressed the need for the nation to celebrate Joe Quansah since he was an inspiration to Ghanaians.

“We need to find a way of turning his funeral into a celebration to teach the young ones how to turn opportunities into good use,” he stated.

He promised that his outfit would support the funeral with advertisements and coverage in the Daily Graphic and Graphic Sports.

The family delegation, comprising Messrs Albert Kojo Essiam, Winston Ernest Quansah (deceased’s son), Joojo Quansah (brother) and Solomon Botwey, were welcomed by the Public Affairs Manager of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr Albert Sam.

Two former national players who were present at the meeting, Esther Lamptey and Boye Nartey, hinted of plans to play some exhibition matches at the funeral grounds as a way of paying their last respect to their departed colleague.

Joe Quansah, 61, passed away in Agona Swedru on October 7 last year. His burial and final funeral rites will take place at Agona Swedru on Saturday.
