Gruzah withdraws from GFA race

The founder of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Gruzah, has withdrawn from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential race, citing personal reasons and advice by his children for his action.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday, Alhaji Gruzah said he was keen on contesting for the GFA presidency when the GFA Normalisation Committee announced the road map for interested parties to contest but following advice by his children, he had decided to withdraw from the race even before picking a nomination form.

“My withdrawal from the contest was not only based on personal reasons but also I listened to the advice of my children who are against my idea of vying for the presidency of the football controlling body.

”I want to express my profound gratitude to all those who were supporting me to contest the GFA top position, especially those who took time to pray for God’s blessings, protection and favour to be my portion when I made up my mind to contest,” Alhaji Gruzah explained.

He, however, said he would follow the contest with keen eyes when it kicked off, hoping that the right candidate would be elected to initiate policies and programmes that would transform Ghana football.

“I am also hoping that the one who becomes the eventual winner leads the association with honesty, truthfulness, transparency and commitment.

“The winner should also be committed to the implementation of all the statutes of the GFA regulations without fear or favour. This is because it is only when the statutes are fully implemented in honesty and fairness that football in Ghana will become more attractive to entice investors to invest in their numbers to accelerate its development.”
