Talent Hour for Persons with Disabilities (TH4D) has appealed to the government to settle outstanding financial obligations owed to members of the Black Challenge, Ghana’s national amputee football team, ahead of the 2026 World Amputee Football Cup (WAFF) in Mexico.
The organisation also appealed to corporate bodies and the general public to support the team as it prepares to represent Ghana at the tournament in San Juan de los Lagos, scheduled for November 13 to 22, 2026.
The Black Challenge is among 24 countries expected to compete for the world title.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 17, 2026, TH4D commended the Ghana National Paralympic Committee (NPC), its President, Mr Samson Deen, and the management of the Black Challenge for paying the participation fee, which secured Ghana’s place at the tournament.
The organisation also acknowledged a previous US$10,000 donation by President John Dramani Mahama to the team following its victory at the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations in Egypt.
TH4D, nonetheless, expressed concern over what it described as outstanding financial obligations incurred by players during previous competitions, including the 2023 African Paralympic Games and the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations in Egypt.
According to the organisation, some foreign-based players had to take personal loans to meet their travel expenses to return to their clubs after the 2024 championship.
It said the financial burden continued to affect the players despite the sacrifices they had made in representing the country on the international stage.
TH4D, therefore, appealed to President Mahama and the government to settle the outstanding obligations and introduce a special reward and incentive package for the team in recognition of its achievements.
It said such support would ease the financial burden on the players and give them further motivation as they prepared for the tournament in Mexico.
African champions
The Black Challenge beat Morocco 2-1 in Cairo to win the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations.
The victory gave Ghana its second consecutive AAFCON title.
TH4D said it would continue to support efforts to promote inclusion and help athletes with disabilities reach their full potential.
