Golf: 88th Ghana Open tees off tomorrow
In a thrilling showcase of golfing prowess, the 88th Ghana Open promises an exhilarating competition.
The tournament, sanctioned by the Ghana Golf Association, R&A, and WAGR, is scheduled to take place at the Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema, from September 20 to 23, 2023.
Professionals, equipped with valid PGA cards, are invited to compete for a staggering GHS 100,000 in prize money. The competition is set to be fierce, with the event offering an impressive purse for the victor.
The tournament comprises three main events:
In the event of a tie for the 18th position, a sudden-death playoff will be conducted, adding an extra layer of intensity to the competition.
Competitors will navigate a challenging 72 holes from the White Tees, with the field being narrowed down to 18 players after Day 2.
Over 54 holes from the Blue Tees, participants will test their mettle in a gruelling display of skill. There will be no cut, ensuring that the top contenders continue to vie for the title.
Similarly, the Championship Ladies category will see competitors engage in 54 holes of precision golf, played from the Red Tees. As with the men's equivalent, there will be no cut, allowing the cream of the crop to rise to the top.
In addition to the main events, the tournament will feature supporting events, including Men’s Handicap (18 Holes) and Ladies Handicap (18 Holes).
In addition to the substantial prize money for professionals, the tournament also features ancillary prizes for exceptional feats on the course. These include awards for the Longest Drive (Men & Ladies) and Nearest to the Pin (Men & Ladies).
