Ghana’s Golden Arms have made an impressive start to their campaign at the 2026 World Armwrestling Championships in New Delhi, India, after winning four silver medals on the opening day of competition.
Police officer and African champion Grace Minta led the medal charge, claiming two silver medals in the Masters Women’s 80kg category, finishing second in both the left-arm and right-arm events.
Fellow Police officer Florence Boakye Mensah added another silver in the Masters Women’s over-80kg left-arm contest, while Dodzi Asinu completed Ghana’s opening-day haul with silver in the Masters Men’s 110kg right-arm category.
The four-medal return offers an encouraging start for the team, which travelled to India determined to improve Ghana’s standing among the world’s leading armwrestling nations.
Attention now shifts to Friday’s programme, with five Ghanaian competitors scheduled to take to the table.

Charles Osei Asibey Jr. will compete in the 60kg boys’ category, while Blessed Abeka Nunoo is listed for the 60kg girls’ division. Mabel Yeboah will also be in action in the 60kg youth category, alongside Daniel Acquah in the 65kg youth class and Henry Otoo in the 70kg youth division.
The 47th World Armwrestling and 28th World Para Armwrestling Championships runs until November 7, bringing together over 1,700 athletes, officials, and supporters from over 60 countries.
Ghana entered the competition with a strong foundation, having won three medals at the 2025 World Championships in Bulgaria — two silver and one bronze — through Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo.
Grace Minta has also established herself on the global stage, becoming the first Ghanaian to win a World Armwrestling Championship gold medal when she triumphed in Moldova in 2024.
The Golden Arms’ preparations included a national camping programme focused on physical conditioning, technical and tactical development, recovery and mental preparation. Ghana Armwrestling Federation President Charles Osei Asibey had set the objective of challenging for medals rather than merely participating.
With four silver medals already secured, the team will be looking to build on that early success as more of its athletes enter competition, with the ultimate target of returning home with an improved medal haul.
