Go all out! - Maxwell Konadu charges

Ghana coach, Maxwell Konadu, has charged the team to put last Monday’s 2-0 loss to Nigeria behind them and ‘fight’ for the ultimate in the ongoing WAFU tournament, offensive midfielder Thomas Abbey has revealed.

Abbey, who missed Ghana’s 0-2 loss to Nigeria last Monday due to injury, told the Graphic Sports that Coach Konadu tasked them to banish last Monday’s loss by going all out to win tomorrow’s semi-final clash in Cape Coast to redeem the team’s image.

For the midfielder, the defeat to Nigeria was a shock therapy for Ghana to wake up to the threat ahead, adding that any complacency by the team could result in the trophy slipping from their hands.

Despite winning three straight games before last Monday’s shock loss to the Super Eagles, Abbey maintained that there was still a lot of work to do to get the Black Stars B firing on all cylinders to secure a ticket to the final.

“This loss [to Nigeria] cannot affect us in our next game. It is rather a wake-up call. It tells us that we have to go the extra mile to make amends in our next game,” said the Hearts of Oak captain who won the NASCO Player of the Match award in Ghana’s 2-0 win over Guinea in a Group A clash.

“Coach Konadu has told us to go all out to redeem our image so we are looking forward to the next big match and we cannot afford to fail,” he said.

Despite a few injury worries, he was confident the team had strength in depth with all the players eager to grab the opportunity to feature for the country.

“We are 18 players and every player here is equally good so if one player is injured another one should be given the chance. This is the national team so once you make it here you must be ready to play at any given time.”
