Wednesday, December 26, will be remembered in the history of Sekondi-Takoradi as the twin city hosts a special boxing carnival to mark the Yuletide.
The event, dubbed “Westside Carnival and Masqueraders Parade”, will be an interesting blend of boxing and fancy dress competition being organised by SKYY FM.
As part of plans to upgrade and enhance the annual event, boxing has been infused into the programme following a fruitful discussion between the CEO of SKYY FM, Mr Wilson Arthur, and the acting president of the Western Regional Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr Twintoh Walker, who who is also the chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Regional Outreach Committee.
According to Mr Walker, the event will be great and amazing as the various fancy dress clubs in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metroplis parade through the principal streets from morning till afternoon to the parade grounds at Amanful, Effiakuma Taxi Rank.
Crowning it all will be a musical show to climax the Boxing Day package, featuring some popular local artistes.

Mr Walker revealed that a new boxing ring and equipment donated by the management of Bukom Boxing Arena, Trust Emporium Limited, will be presented to the Western Regional Boxing Promotion Committee.
He said after the unveiling of the new ring, a special challenge boxing bout would take place between Western Region amateur boxing team and Greater Accra Boxing Club.
Mr Jeffery K. Owusu Manzan, Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, will also inaugurate the committee, which comprises the GBA and Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) bodies.
