The news was conveyed through an official statement released on Sunday, August 6, 2023, only thirteen days before the event's commencement.

Azamati, who holds the national record for the 100 meters, was originally slated to participate in both the 4x100 meters relays and the individual 100 meters event. However, a severe groin injury sustained during his outdoor season in Europe approximately a month and a half ago has compelled him to step back from the competition.

In the statement, Azamati lamented the unforeseen injury that has thwarted his participation on the world stage. The difficulties of traversing continents for a US visa, combined with the challenges of maintaining a high level of competition, exacerbated the injury's severity.

The 25-year-old sprinter expressed his deep regret at not being able to represent his country and showcase his talents at the global championship. Cognizant of the potential harm that could be caused by competing with an injury, Azamati and his management team made the difficult decision to prioritize his long-term athletic potential and well-being.

Azamati extended gratitude to his team, coaches, and medical staff at Chojo Camp in France for their unyielding support during this trying period. He acknowledged their pivotal role in assisting him in managing the injury and exploring recovery options.

He also conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to his fans for their unwavering support throughout his career. The encouragement and belief in his abilities continue to inspire him, even in the face of this setback.

Although Azamati will be absent from the 2023 World Athletics Championships, he affirmed his unwavering dedication to his recovery and rehabilitation. His aspiration remains to rejoin the competitive arena stronger and better than before.

Azamati's withdrawal leaves room for local athlete Edwin Gadayi to take his place in the competition, representing Ghana on the international stage.
