Ghanaian fans sought shelter in the inner perimeter after they were attacked in the stands by home fans

Ghanaian feared dead?

A Ghanaian is feared dead but an Equatorial Guinean confirmed dead as a result of last Thursday's fan rowdyism at the Malabo stadium that transcended on to the streets during the semi-final match between the Black Stars and Equatorial Guinea.

It was difficult to verify the information from an official source as the Ghana Embassy said they were not aware of the death, though it was the talk of town.

The Ghanaian is yet to be identified, but is believed to have died after he was attacked in his community by a group of angry home fans, for jubilating when the Stars won.  The Equatorial-Guinean was, however, knocked down by a car within the same area as he tried to flee from the chaotic scene.

Some members of the Ghanaian community in Malabo who told the Daily Graphic about the incident, said the young man lost his life after he was attacked by a group of Guineans who were on the rampage attacking foreigners.

"We don't know how it happened because it happened so fast, but he was taken away by the police together with the Guinean who was knocked down by a car as he tried to flee the chaotic scene," said a member of the Ghanaian community.

They, however, could not give any further details about the incident, saying the young man was not well known as he had not been part of the community, though he came around from time to time.

"The Embassy should be able to get the details, but that will be difficult as it is believed that the man did not have the requisite residents' permit," another group member said.

The Ghanaians said they were lucky to have escaped the attack as they locked themselves up in a room before the rowdyism got out of hand, explaining that many people were also injured and others arrested.
