Ghana winger Edwin Gyasi linked with January move to England

Norwich City are reportedly one of a number of English clubs keen to sign Ghanian international winger Edwin Gyasi this month.

The Canaries and Championship rivals Fulham, as well as Premier League side Brighton, have all enquired about the 26-year-old’s availability according to the Daily Mail.

Gyasi plays for Aalesund, who finished second from bottom in the Norwegian top flight last season, scoring seven goals in 29 games – who reportedly want £600,000 up front in a £1million deal.

His form earned a call-up to the Ghana squad, making his debut as a second-half substitute during a 5-1 friendly win over Congo in September, before starting and scoring an equaliser against Egypt during World Cup qualifying in November, although the 1-1 draw was not enough to salvage qualification for this summer’s World Cup.

The report adds that the Amsterdam-born attacker has been on the radar of Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday as well, with Sunderland only interested in a loan.

Gyasi came through the academy system of Dutch top flight side AZ Alkmaar, before spells with De Graafschap and FC Twente, before lower level spells with Heracles Almelo and Roda JC.

After moving to Norway he scored six goals in 26 games during his first season for Aalesund in 2016 and can play as a second striker as well as a winger.

With his contract due to expire at the end of the 2018 Norwegian season, The Sun also linked Gyasi with Swansea, West Brom, Bristol City and QPR in November, so it remains to be seen if City are keen on the player, or whether his agent is working hard to secure a move to England for his client.
