GHALCA 8 Award is a moral booster — Owusu

The captain of Dreams FC, Leonard Owusu, says that being adjudged the player of the GHALCA G8 tournament comes with a lot of pressure, but he believes the same drive which got him the award would challenge him to bring out his very best.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Owusu said the award meant a lot to him as it had upped his confidence and given him the hope of further excelling.

“The award means a lot to me as an individual and the entire team. It will no doubt boost my moral, particularly, ahead of the season.

“I see the award as a challenge to give my very best to the club and that’s exactly what I aim to do in the coming season,” Owusu indicated.

As captain of the returnee Ghana Premiership side Dreams FC, the calm looking skipper of the Dawu-based side showed leadership during their GHALCA G8 final match against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Cape Coast Stadium last Sunday by converting the deciding spot-kick which turned out to be the winning goal to get his side their first major trophy.

On the outstanding performance of the club which eventually earned them the ultimate G8 trophy, Owusu said, given the big guns and where they were coming from, they did not anticipate that they would win the silverware and so their focus was to play and exhibit their talents.

However, he said they realised along the line that it was possible to win the trophy and so they worked towards that goal to grab the opportunity.

He described the G8 competition as a good pre-season for the club saying: “The games we played have helped us identify our strengths and weaknesses which we need to build on or work to improve upon for the season.”
