GFA reappoints Kingston as Black Stars goalkeeper’s trainer

Barely one and half years after he was dismissed from the Black Stars technical team, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reappointed Richard Kingston as the Goalkeeper's trainer of the team.

The services of Kingston, a former shot stopper of the national team, was dispensed with together with Coach Kwasi Appiah in January 2020 after the team’s disastrous Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Egypt in 2019.

The 43-year-old goalkeeper is expected to bring his rich experience to bear to help the current generation of goalkeepers in the Black Stars.

He also previously played for teams including Great Olympics, and Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic and Blackpool in England as well as Galatasaray, Antalyaspor, Ankaraspor, Balikesirespor and Sakaryaspor all in the Turkish league.

His international experience includes two appearances in the World Cup in 2006 and 2010 as well as playing in the AFCON five times.

Ghana’s Black Stars are scheduled to play Ethiopia and South Africa in September 2021 as they prepare for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup begins.
