Gameboy: I am in top shape

International Boxing Organization (IBO) World Lightweight world champion Emmanuel "The Gameboy" Tagoe is adamant that ring-rust will not be a factor when he mounts the ring on Saturday to face 70-bout Argentine veteran Fernando David Saucedo at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Gameboy, 31, has been out of action for over a year. The last time he was in the prize ring he was edging South African Mzonke Fana via unanimous decision for the IBO world title that will be at stake when he comes face-to-face with Saucedo.

Brimming with confidence during a visit to the Graphic Communications Group Limited offices on Monday in Accra, Gameboy told the Graphic Sports that anyone who refers to a perceived ring-rustiness was ill-informed because he has faced longer stints of inactivity outside the ring.

According to the undefeated warrior, his recent absence from the sport was different because at a point he was injured but since his return, he has been keeping active by sparring with world-class boxers such as lightweight contender Richard Commey and welterweight Frederick Lawson.

"Anyone, who says I have been inactive is not well informed. I would have fought earlier but for injury but since my return, I have made very experienced boxers look ordinary in sparring sessions," said Tagoe who has not lost in his last 27 professional fights.

"Ghana boxing belongs to me currently and I will write another chapter on Saturday. I will make another boxer look ordinary and everyone at the stadium will be happy".

The tough-talking Jamestown native stated that he was on a trajectory to become a future boxing Hall of Famer especially if he manages to achieve his major target of 2018 by unifying the Lightweight division.

"Boxing is my God-given talent and I am the best boxer Ghana currently has, my main target is to unify the division and after that I know I will join Azumah Nelson in the Boxing Hall of Fame".

Meanwhile, Tagoe's opponent is expected to touch down in the country at 5 pm on Wednesday at the Kotoko International Airport.
