According to the president of the GAA, Mr Bawa Fuseini, the competition will serve as a selection criteria for selecting athletes to represent the nation at international youth and championship athletics competitions this year.

He also revealed to the Graphic Sports that Ghana will host a two-day five nation youth and junior athletics championships in Tamale from April 14 to 15. The countries are Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Cote D’Ivoire and Ghana.

“Ghana will also participate in the 2023 African Youth and Junior championships in Lusaka Zambia from the April 27 to May 4, and take part in the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago later this year” he told the Graphic Sports.

He stressed that the school’s championship will select young athletes for all the above competitions while adding that athletes selected will begin camping from April 10.

“These championships are very crucial because for the past three years we have not had the benefit of school athletics competition to get our junior athletes competition ready, partly because of the COVID 19 and that could affect the prospects of getting young athletes into the national team,” he noted.
