FIFA revises World Cup play-off dates: Ghana host Nigeria March 25

Ghana's Black Stars will host the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday, March 25 in the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff in Cape Coast following an adjustment of the schedule by FIFA.

The tie was originally scheduled for March 24 but the world football governing body revised the dates of the playoffs and pushed back the matches by 24 hours, with the return leg now taking place on Tuesday, March 29.

The first leg clash will now kickoff at 19:30GMT (7.30pm local time), while the second leg takes kicks off at 17:00 GMT at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria.

The winner over the two legs will join four other countries to represent the continent at the world’s biggest football showpiece in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022.

New handlers

Newly appointed interim Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, is expected to name his squad for the crucial assignment in the coming days before the team assembles in Ghana to prepare for the first leg clash.

Addo, 46, will be assisted by coaches Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng, with Irish-Ghanaian coach, Chris Hughton as Technical Advisor for the two-leg clash.

The Black Stars are pressure to ensure Ghana’s qualification to the 2022 World Cup following a dismal performance at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroun which saw the team crashing out at the group stage with a single point.

Ghana will also be seeking to return to football's biggest global gathering after missing the 2018 World Cup in Russia, having previously made three consecutive World Cup appearances in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
