Excitement galore at De-Luxy Boxing League

Boxing fans defied intermittent rains last Saturday as the De-Luxy Boxing League entered the 14th night with thrilling fights and exciting musical performances that got the crowd cheering non-stop at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

There was never a dull moment even when the rains forced two short breaks, but artistes King Jerry and boxer-turned-artiste Braimah Kamoko (Bukom Banku) generated a lot of excitement among the expectant crowd, inclining some diplomats, who filled the arena.

Aminu Quarshie of the Attoh Quarshie Gym and Ernest Ampah of the Akotoku Academy fought to a draw in their welterweight encounter, Enoch Tetteh of the Sonia Gym earned a unanimous points victory over David Tagoe of the Wisdom Gym in a super-bantamweight clash. The referees scored the fight 60-54, 59-54 and 58-55 in favour of Tetteh.

Controversy
The night was nearly marred by fans of Jerry Klutei Robertson of The Gym who protested against the decision to declare Mohammed Fuseini of the Charles Quartey Boxing (CBQ) Foundation winner of their bantamweight fight.

Although a fairly close contest, the referees scored it 60-55, 58-57 and 57-57 in favour of Fuseini whose followers disapproved of the verdict and caused a few minutes of disruption until calm was restored, especially during the musical break.

Eric Quarm of the Fit Square Gym had little trouble defeating Bernard Ankrah of the Black Panthers Gym with a unanimous points victory (59-53, 60-52 and 60-52).

Charles Tetteh of the Panix Gym blew out Michael Tagoe of the Seconds Out Gym with a third round technical knockout (TKO) victory despite initial resistance of Tagoe who displayed a big heart but was pummelled into submission from the second round.

De-Luxy League table

After 14 fight nights, the CBQ Foundation leads the 12-team league with 33 points from 11 victories and three losses, followed closely by the Fit Square Gym (31 points) with the Sonia Gym (30 points) in third position.

At the bottom of the log is the Wisdom Gym (three points) with only one win in 14 fights.
