‘Don’t push Gyan, Ayews out of Black Stars’

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has called on the public to desist from pressuring Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, to dispense with the services of skipper Asamoah Gyan and the Ayew brothers.

Mr Nyantakyi said calling on Coach Appiah to overlook the trio would be a form of dictating to him on who to invite to play for the senior national team.

He said Coach Appiah must be left to make call-ups into the Stars based on his own discretion and who he feel could help his team.

Gyan, Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew were left out of the Stars team that thrashed Congo 5-1 away in their FIFA World Cup qualifier after reportedly sustaining injuries in the first leg stalemate in Kumasi.

Their decision not to a partake in the match has led to public outcry over what Ghanaian football enthusiasts believed was just a decision by the players to avoid the game by feigning injuries and sickness.

But in an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, Nyantakyi called for calm and insisted that the coach must be allowed to do his job, rather than telling him what to do.

"I don't think it is the best thing to do by insisting that Kwesi Appiah retires Asamoah Gyan and the Ayew brothers just because they couldn't play in a match”.

"It will be a form of dictatorship to tell the coach what to do but I feel he must be left to invite players into the Black Stars based on his discretion which is the mandate given to him," he said.

The FA boss, however, commended the Stars for their impressive showing in Congo, especially when all hope was lost after their 1-1 draw with Congo at the Baba Yara Stadium last Friday.

Mr Nyantakyi explained that it would be better for the Stars to win their last two games against Egypt and Uganda and await their destiny since anything was possible in football.
