Dogboe’s dad sues Gameboy for GH¢1m
The father and trainer of Isaac Dogboe has filed a law suit of GH¢1 million for defamation against IBO Lightweight champion, Emmanuel "Gameboy" Tagoe for comments made by the boxer on Happy FM.
In a statement of claim, a copy of which the Graphic Sports has, Paul Dogboe, is seeking GH¢1 million in damages and a perpetual injunction from the court restraining the Defendant (Tagoe) from further publishing or causing to be published the said defamatory statement against the boxer’s father.
He also wants an order directed at the Tagoe to render an apology and retract his defamatory statements in a national newspaper.
After his 10th round technical knockout victory over Fernando David Saucedo in Accra on January 27, Tagoe allegedly made defamatory statements on radio against Paul, following comparisons by the public between Dogboe’s spectacular victory via a fifth round TKO against Cesar Juarez of Mexico days earlier and that of Tagoe’s successful title defence against his Argentine challenger.
The boxer was quoted in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM as refering to Paul as a fraudster who used his son, Isaac, as an opportunity to allegedly defraud people such as businessman Ibrahim Mahama and another person in Volta Region.
"He has been going round defrauding people, Ibrahim Mahama, he defrauded him. He goes around with his son promising to do this or that and absconds. He recently defrauded someone also in the volta region," Tagoe was quoted in the suit as saying on Happy FM.
Tagoe's camp had dared Dogboe for a fight irrespective of the weight differences between the pair with the latter agreeing to a showdown at catchweight or super featherweight.
The challenge began after a member of Tagoe's camp, Baffour Gyan of BabyJet Promotions, stated that Dogboe would not last three rounds should he step into the ring to face the IBO Lightweight champion.
In response, Paul warned that Tagoe was putting his career at risk by demanding to face Isaac, whom he said would end Tagoe’s career should the bout take place on a winner-takes-all basis.
