Da-Costa, Hurtubise reign in MTN golf

Evergreen lady golfer Mona Myers-Lamptey failed to crown the year in grand style as she could only finish third in the MTN Invitational golf tournament played at the Celebrity Golf Club last Saturday.

Instead, it was familiar face Flora Hurtubise who once again established her dominance in the competition as she finished with 37 points to be crowned the champion with a handicap of 21.

Leticia Amponsah Mensah, one of the favourites, bagged 35 points with her handicap of 16 and was a point better than Myers-Lamptey who recorded 34 points with a handicap of 18 to finish third.

Relatively unknown Ebo Da-Costa was the surprise winner in the men’s Group A category as he managed to shrug off competition from well-established golfers such as Joseph Turkson and Jack Yang Lin to win the event.

Da-Costa staged a spirited performance throughout the game with his beautiful strokes on the course until he eventually put the ball from the greens into the hole to bag 36 points with a handicap of 19.

Turkson followed closely with 34 points, having played with handicap 18, while Lin returned a net score of 32 with his handicap of 17.

In the men’s Group B game, Clement Owusu-Darko deservedly picked the top prize with a net score of 37 points followed by A. Adeoye-Fowosal and Olu Sawyer who scored with 35 and 34 points, respectively, to finish in that order.

Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah won the Longest Drive in the ladies category while Peter Daglo won the men’s category.

Similarly, Emmanuel Ocansey picked the Closest to the Pin award for men while Myers-Lamptey picked the ladies prize.
