Coronavirus: AFCON postponed to January 2022

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to January 2022 as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

CAF in a tweet said the date for the final tournament scheduled for Cameroon will be communicated in due course. The tournament was initially scheduled for January-February 2021.

Meanwhile, the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) reserved for footballers who play in their country of birth, will now take place in January 2021.

The CHAN tournament was supposed to have been played last April in Cameroon.

The decisions were announced after a CAF Executive Meeting today (June 30, 2020)
