Coach Zito targets group stage in Confed Cup

Dreams FC coach, Karim Zito, has targeted qualifying to the group stage of their CAF Confederation Cup when they open their campaign against Milo FC of Guinea next week.

To achieve this the national under-20 coach said he was approaching the first leg with a mindset of either going to look for a draw or win and apply a different strategy to scoop the maximum points in the return leg.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports last Friday the Dreams FC coach admitted that he would be leading an army of players who were inexperience in continental competition but was happy about their determination to engrave their names in the annals of the football history the country.

''It won’t be easy but we'll work hard to stand the test of time because we also want to do something to elevate the image of the club and that of the president, so we are not going to Africa just for the sake of it but to make an impact'', he said.

Coach Zito dismissed the notion that their unimpressive performance in the premier league last season could affect their chances, stating that even when they were written off as relegation bound, they bounced back strongly to escape the tide.

''We didn’t start last season's league well and I didn’t start it, but I came to finish it. Afterwards we did evaluation of the league and we saw where we went wrong and where we went right. When we were threatened with relegation we sat down and asked ourselves how do we elevate ourselves from that situation'', he stated.

He also reminded his players to see this as an opportunity to market themselves to the world and challenged them not to be dispirited by their league performance but be motivated by the contribution they would make as representatives of the country.

Despite playing a few test matches ahead of the game, Coach Zito expressed disappointment in their preparation and the failure of local clubs to engage them in pre-season friendlies with the excuse that they were not ready, but he believed it won’t dampen their chances.
