Can Legon Cities FC upset Kotoko?

Ghana Premier League (GPL) side Legon Cities Football Club (LCFC) have vowed to claim the three points at stake in their first home match against giants Asante Kotoko at 6 p.m. tonight at the Accra Sports Stadium in the nation's capital.

After sharing honours with Liberty Professionals in a 2-2 drawn game in the opener of the 2019/2020 season last Sunday, the coach of LCFC, Goran Barjaktarevic, now aims at recording his first win in the competition.

Coach upbeat

In an interview about his team's preparation for today's encounter, the expatriate coach said: "We have a game to win but I have a lot of respect for my opponent Kotoko.

“I know they have good players but I’m very confident about my players and we are sure of victory. I want to win against every opponent," he stated.

In sharp contrast, the skipper of Kotoko, Felix Annan, told the Daily Graphic in a separate interview that the Porcupine Warriors were ready to record their second win of the season.

"We are ready and poised for the game and hope to win even though we know it’s going to be tough," Annan assured.

Tough encounter

Aside from the optimism of the two teams, the match is tipped to be a mouth-watering encounter as the Porcupine Warriors will showcase their experience and tenacity, while their opponents will exhibit youthful exuberance, speed and possessive play to entertain the fans who will troop to the venue.

After recording a lone goal victory over Techiman Eleven Wonders in Kumasi last Sunday, Coach Maxwell Konadu will hope to maintain a winning form with another win tonight as is evident in the squad he has picked for the game.

He will count on the likes of Annan, Justice Blay, Songne Yacouba, Augustine Okrah, Emmanuel Agyeman Badu, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Patrick Yeboah and others to help record their first away win in front of their numerous Accra fans.

Coach Goran's side will be motivated by former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, who will lead a virtually unknown side comprising skipper Jeffrey Degorl, Terry Owusu, Theophilus Buabeng, Ahmed Ramadan, Sadik Sule, Eben Dida and others to attempt an upset.

The side attraction will be a live performance by popular Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
