Borbor under pressure to start Ashia

Kenndy AshiaStriker Kennedy Ashia appeared to have won the trust of Coach Sellas Tetteh ahead of this evening’s crucial encounter against Portugal even though the Satellites tactician is unhappy with attempts by agitating fans to cajole him to give the player a starting place. Ashia might start this evening encounter after a superb piece of attacking show he displayed last week when he came on as a subtitute to score the most crucial goal that earned the team’s slot at the 1/16th stage of the 2013 U-20 World Cup currently ongoing in Turkey.

The Liberty Professionals youngster is one of the Glo Premier League’s top scorers, having scored 14 goals, most of them out of the box, but has been consigned to the substitutes’ bench with some agitating home fans constantly haranguing the coach for that decision.

But speaking to Graphic Sports in Kayseri, Coach Tetteh, popularly referred to as Borbor at home, denounced the attempts to push him to field a player when according to him, all the 22 players currently in his squad were equally important to him.

“No player is special in the team, each member of the squad has something to contribute to the team and at the right time they will be given the opportunity to contribute to the success of the team.

“It is not true that Ashia has been consigned to the bench. We brought him in the game against France and what happened. He was unable to hit the target. That does not mean he is a bad player. The truth of the matter is that the time was not yet ripe for him.

“Today, he has hit the target and we must all be happy for him. We must be patient at all times and wait for the right time,” he stressed.
