Black Queens line up Japan, Morocco friendlies

The Ghana Football Association has lined up two international friendly matches for the Black Queens against Morocco and Japan ahead of their "host and win" bid at the 2018 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana will host the flagship football competition for African women between November 17-December 2018 and will be denied the opportunity to test their skills against other teams on the continent.

However, GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi has promised that his outfit will provide the Queens with all the support they need to conquer Africa, starting with a series of international friendlies.

According to him, the Queens are billed to test their wits away to Japan on April 1 and later at home in Accra against Morocco in June.

"This year, we will be hosting the African Women's Championship that's the African Cup of Nations for Women from the 17th to the 1st of December in Ghana," Nyantakyi said at the GFA's Ordinary Congress last Wednesday.

"In our quest to ensure that our senior women's team lift the trophy, we pledge to give them all of our support to ensure that they are in a good shape to win the title.

"In our utmost desire of giving them the best preparations, we are organising a series of friendly matches which will include playing in Japan on April 1 and playing against Morocco in Accra in June," he stressed.

Mr Nyantakyi also credited FIFA's Live Your Goals campaign, which aims to inspire young girls to play football with the resurgence of Ghanaian women's football at the youth level.

He mentioned the exploits of the Black Maidens and the Black Princesses in qualifying for the 2018 FIFA U-17 World Cup and 2018 FIFA U-20 World Cup respectively.

He said, "Two years ago, we started the Live Your Goals campaign for girls in football and its yielding positive dividends. The result are that the under 17 and under 20 teams have qualified for the world cup in France and Uruguay respectively".

He also congratulated the management committee, as well as the playing body and technical teams of both teams, for their performances.
