Black Princesses call for massive support against Cameroun

Ghana’s Under-20 female football team, the Black Princesses, have appealed to Ghanaians to turn up in their numbers to support them to win against Cameroun in their final Women’s World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

The Princesses host the Camerounians at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday in the second and final leg of their FIFA U-20 WWC campaign and with a 1-1 draw from the first leg, the Princesses are hoping to win to qualify for the tournament in France.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports, players of the team said they were determined to win at all cost, but they believed the overwhelming support from fans would be a huge source of encouragement.

“When we went to Yaounde, the stadium was so full. It was unbelievable that it was a women’s game. The Camerounians were thus motivated by that huge support from their fans. We believe our supporters at home can also urge us on with their presence,” Princella Adubea, said on behalf of her teammates.

“This is not just the final leg but also the most important. It is that one match to take us to France. We want to win and we plead with all Ghanaians to turn up in their numbers to lend support to this important match,” Adubea, who is also the top scorer not just for the Princesses, but in the entire qualifying campaign, stressed.

To galvanise support for the Princesses, a non-governmental body aimed at bringing women in sports together, Women In Sports Association (WISA), has also called on females in Cape Coast, especially, students at the University of Cape Coast to be at the stadium to support the team.

“This is an important national assignment and we all have to show our support. Yes, we could pray for them, but our presence at the stadium and in our national colours, will no doubt motivate the Princesses to go all out and win and qualify for the WWC to make us proud,” Madam Gloria Commodore, the founding president appealed,
