Ben Kuofie endorses Owu

Veteran coach Ben Koufie is the latest to add his voice to the growing list of soccer personalities endorsing Hasaacas goalkeeper, George Owu, for a place in the Black Stars squad.

The former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman told the media at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre for Excellence at Prampram last Wednesday that Hasaacas’ success story in the First Capital Plus Premier League could be attributed to their goalkeeper’s spirited performance.

He described Owu as one of the best shot stoppers in the domestic league currently and said he would not be surprised if his name appears in coach Kwasi Appiah’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad to be announced on Monday.

Mr Koufie said, however, that the goalkeeper’s sterling performance notwithstanding, it was coach Appiah’s prerogative to select players of his choice for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

“Owu has been phenomenal this season, and I must commend him for a good job done. Of course, he deserves a place in the Black Stars based on his current performance. I have monitored his progress so have a lot of people. I have heard people commend him for his performance, but look, the decision to choose who goes to Brazil lies in the hands of the coach,” said Kuofie.

Experts of the game, such as the Greater Accra RFA chairman, Nii Komiete Doku, Alhaji Karim Gruzah, CEO King Faisal, coach Yusif Basigi, among others, believe Owu has what it takes to be part of the 23 men who would be representing Ghana in Brazil.
