Bechem United boss: Ghana strikers and goalkeepers need special training
The Chairman of Bechem United, Kingsley Owusu Achau, has identified the absence of top-quality coaches to groom strikers and goalkeepers as the reason for the low-quality strikers and goalkeepers in the country.

According to him, it was a shame that each season, the top scorer could only boast of just an average of 15 goals out of the about 36 matches that is played and said it does not auger well for the league.
He said this trend could be reversed if the Ghana Football Association managed to engage the services of a top-notch coach for both goalkeepers and strikers to train the local coaches on how to make our strikers clinical finishers.
Speaking to the Graphic Sports last Friday, the bankroller of Bechem United said this problem had been with us for a long time but no one appears to be doing anything about it and believes the only way to cure this was to upgrade local coaches.
Mr Achau said the game had become scientific and until local coaches became abreast of modern trends and train local strikers with the best techniques of striking, they would continue to shoot blank and wide.
“In Ghana, we know the areas that are lacking, goalkeeping and striking so we should pay to bring experts down for about three weeks and assemble all the premier league coaches to undergo some orientation”, he said.
He stated that local coaches only knew general training of players but where to specialise is lacking.
Mr Achau identified this as a continental problem, insisting that most African strikers who travel to Europe struggle because they are unable to apply the modern technique of strikers and always balloons the ball whenever they are near the goal post.
“Immediately you go there (Europe), they tell you an Africa goalkeeper when he is catching the ball, he is not able to put his body behind the ball so as soon as it slips through the hand, it’s a goal and the African striker is always shooting and the ball keeps rising and they call that Africa shot”, he said.
