Bayern striker Wriedt hopes for more chances with Black Stars

After making his international debut with Ghana’s famous Black Stars against Japan, Bayern II’s Kwasi “Otschi” Wriedt enjoyed his second game in an exciting friendly against Iceland.

Wriedt came on for Emmanuel Boateng in the 69th minute as Iceland led 2:1 with an early goal by Kari Arnasson and another by Augsburg’s Alfred Finbogasson in the 40th minute. The Black Stars earned a 2-2 away draw courtesy a late goal (87’) by Thomas Partey.

Wriedt in an interview with Bild said Iceland’s legendary fan atmosphere and Viking chant made a huge impression on him.

"Experiencing the hoo-chants live was a cool experience; it was awesome that everyone in the stadium does it. Really loud! They did the hoo right at the start of the game".

Wriedt said he also enjoyed the company of his Ghanaian teammates, who he reveals strive to keep a positive, pious team spirit:

"We’re all full of live; everyone’s basic mindset is always positive and very religious. For example, before training and games, we always pray together".

The Black Stars also have a lot of fun. Wriedt brought his Play Station along for the trip and says he plays every day with his roommate Edwin Gyasi. Dancing is also a regular part of the team’s play—including in the locker room, where Wriedt was photographed dancing with the team:

"That was to an African song. The atmosphere was good, and I’m not so stiff in the hips, after all. Everything was totally relaxed. We take this culture from Ghana with us in sports—there's a lot of singing and dancing. That fuses us together as a team even more".

Wriedt hopes for further chances with the team. “The national coach was satisfied with my performance!,” he said after the game.
