West, speaking at a press conference yesterday to herald today’s clinic said all professional athletes had the responsibility to use their stardom to educate young people to be multi-dimensional in the areas of academics and sports.

The Golden State Warriors power forward also added that his outfit settled on Ghana as the location for the first clinic because of the leadership role the country played in the emancipation of the African continent.

He said: "It's not going to be only about basketball but also clean energy and the potential that it has in Ghana.

"...for some reason, information coming from athletes get to young kids and we felt that using basketball we can ultimately educate them on many things not just basketball but clean energy."

According to organisers of the clinic, West and his collaborators, including former NBA star, Pops Mensah Bonsu and Phoenix Suns star Anthony "TJ" Warren will spend hours interacting with over 50 children aged between 10 and 18.

The event will be climaxed with an all-star game involving the 20 best players selected from the clinic.

The Africa All Access clinic is a collaboration between West and his partners at the African Union Mission in Washington DC, Zoetic Energy and New Generation Power International.
