Banku beats retreat

Controversial fighter Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, has beaten a hasty retreat and posted a video vowing to fight old foe, Michael Ayittey Powers Okine, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on December 26.

The 36-year-old undefeated boxer earlier withdrew from the bout, citing health and personal reasons with speculations rife about his assertions that sponsors, JoyDadi Industries, and promoters, Landmark Promotions, favouring Powers to defeat him, which led to his boycott of the bout.

But after being faced with a huge legal battle, having penned down his signature to a contract and received more than GH¢8, 000 in training fees, as well as liabilities arising from the cost incurred by the sponsors, the Bukom- based pugilist is eager to set foot into the ring once more.

At a meeting last Thursday at the Accra Stadium which involved stakeholders of the sport, including Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) president Peter Zwennes, and other executive members, Banku appeared resolute not to fight despite appeals from the GBA.

According to reports, the organisers and sponsors of the bout decided to reschedule the fight to a later date which the GBA agreed and was supposed to finalise tomorrow.

But minutes after departing the meeting, the comical boxer posted a video on the internet vowing to knock Powers down by round five as he pledged to fight with Powers on December 26.

When the Graphic Sports contacted the boxer, he stated that despite harbouring a hand injury he would still fight Powers.

He, however, could not state the change of mind but expressed his willingness to fight on the sanctioned date, December 26.
