Azumah Nelson Jnr set to thrill fans

All pugilists for the fourth edition of the Azumah Nelson Fight Night yesterday morning tilted the scales successfully and also passed a medical examination ahead of tonight’s showdown at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

Headline fighters, undefeated Ghana super featherweight champion Wahab Oluwaseun and British challenger John Hicks, tipped the scales at 136 kilogrammes and 137 kilogrammes respectively.

They also faced off for the cameras for the last time but were not as talkative as they were when they first clashed last Tuesday, with both promising to end the eight-round contest via the short route.

Azumah Nelson Jr, son of WBC Hall of Famer Azumah Nelson, made it beneath the 60kg mark of their three-round lightweight amateur clash, while his new opponent, Prosper Godsway Dzivor, weighed just above 62 kilogrammes.

However, referee Roger Barnor later explained to the Daily Graphic that the bout would be allowed to come off since it was not a championship bout.

The promoter of the Azumah Nelson Fight Night, Heta Hemann, warned all fighters on the card to beware of the strict sanctions against their purses if they show up late for the event slated to start at 6 p.m.

Other bouts on the undercard include an international middleweight contest between British boxer, Keiran Leinster, and Ghanaian Emmanuel Anim, while Ghanaian Raphael King engages Briton Anthony Ayinde in a six-round super lightweight affair.

The only all-Ghanaian clash on the night involves Wasiru Mohammed who locks horns with Felix Okine.
