Awudu Issaka slams Kotoko

A Former Ghanaian international, Awudu Issaka, has slammed the management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko for what he described as an unjustifiable treatment being meted out to Coach David Duncan.

Issaka, who was influential in Ghana’s gold-winning feat at the 1995 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, said asking a coach to step aside in this current era was unprofessional and, therefore, charged the management of the Porcupine Warriors to reconsider that decision.

The 36-year-old former Anderlecht and 1860 Munich midfielder was disappointed because the decision had kept the coach in the dark since then. He charged the Kotoko management to relieve Duncan of his current quagmire by either showing him the exit or reinstating him.

Issaka said throughout his career as a professional footballer, he never witnessed a situation where a coach was ever asked to step aside and was disappointed in the Kotoko management for taking such a decision at a time local clubs were aspiring to do things in a professional manner.

“I don’t think it is right for Kotoko to treat Duncan this way because in life you would not get it right all the time. The fact that the coach is not getting results now doesn’t mean he should be sanctioned,” Issaka, who currently coaches his own academy noted.

Issaka, who was once compared to the dribbling magician, Mohammed Polo, for his deft skills on the ball, praised Duncan’s quality as a coach and warned that the outspoken coach could seek justice outside if the management of Kotoko failed to rescind its decision.
