Former Black Stars midfielder, Godwin Attram, has been drafted into the technical team of the senior national team to replace Demond Ofei.
The move forms part of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) technical restructuring ahead of the Black Stars’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign and other international assignments.
The GFA announced the changes yesterday, explaining that Ofei’s reassignment would enable him to concentrate fully on his role as head coach of the national Under-23 side, the Black Meteors.
Ofei had been combining his duties as an assistant coach of the Black Stars with responsibilities involving the Black Satellites and Black Meteors.
His removal from the Black Stars technical team is expected to allow him to focus on the Black Meteors as they prepare for the next Olympic Games qualifiers.
Attram, who founded and coaches lower-tier side Attram De Visser Soccer Academy, brings experience from both his playing and coaching career.
The former midfielder played for Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and Danish club Silkeborg IF during his playing career and also had a stint as head coach of Accra Great Olympics.
His coaching experience at club level, coupled with his knowledge of Ghanaian football and previous experience as a national team player, is expected to strengthen the Black Stars’ technical set-up.
The latest changes are part of the GFA’s efforts to streamline the technical responsibilities of coaches across the various national teams and ensure that the respective teams receive dedicated attention ahead of their international assignments.
Meanwhile former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has also joined the backroom staff of the Black Stars as Clubs and Player Relations Manager.
The all-time leading top scorer of Ghana joins the Black Stars set-up in a new strategic role that will focus on strengthening the relationship between the national team, players, and their respective clubs, as well as improving player welfare and engagement.
