Atsu, who signed for Chelsea in 2013, have struggled to break into the Chelsea set up, and have been given on loan to Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga. He returned from the Spanish side and is with the team in their pre-season tour, and played his first game under the Italian in their 0-2 loss to Rapid Wien last Friday.

Atsu came on as a sub for Chelsea on the 80th minute for Victor Moses, in a match that featured a strong Blues side with Ghana teammate, Baba Rahman, being handed a starting role at left-back partnering captain of the side John Terry, Papy Djilobodji and Branislav Ivanovic at the back of defence.

Chelsea also had John Obi Mikel, Willian who had a great season in the last one, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa in the starting line-up.

Chelsea’s second friendly takes place on Wednesday when they face Austrian side RZ Pellets.
