African Para Games to ignite spirit of unity, inspiration
The inaugural African Para Games kicked off yesterday in a spectacular opening ceremony held at the renowned Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra in a groundbreaking event that brought together Africa's most exceptional athletes with various forms of disabilities, demonstrating unwavering determination and the spirit of unity.

The grand ceremony not only celebrated the continent's rich cultural diversity but also embraced the concept of "Ubuntu," using sports as a powerful force to bring people together.
Over 20 teams from across Africa will converge in Ghana, where the real competition begins today, spanning September 3 — 13.
The athletes will participate in a wide range of disciplines, including amputee football, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, and sitting volleyball, as they vie for glory with remarkable feats of courage and determination.

Samson Deen, the President of the African Paralympic Committee, expressed his confidence in the success of the event, attributing it to the Ghanaian government's significant investment and commitment to ensuring its triumph.
"We have come a long way to see this happen," he remarked during his opening speech.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, underscored the event's significance, highlighting that it transcended the pursuit of medals and sporting acclaim, as it symbolised the boundless human spirit that transcends barriers, disabilities, and limitations.
Mr Ussif noted that the competition served to honour the athletes' resilience and unwavering determination, acknowledging their remarkable ability to conquer life's challenges.
To him, the African Para Games went beyond the realm of competition; they are about fostering understanding and solidarity that would resonate long after the last medal has been awarded.

He paid tribute to the athletes' relentless dedication, sacrifices, and their exceptional ability to overcome adversity.
"Our athletes have trained tirelessly, pushing their limits, and inspiring us all.
They stand here today as beacons of strength, proving that nothing is impossible when you have the courage to dream and the will to persevere," he said.
