The win avenged the Nigerians’ victory over the Frank Adu Jnr-led side in Lagos last year.

Achimota took the lead on day one of the two-day shotgun event with a 23-6 score in the doubles match play. The host again dominated play when the format switched to a single play with an impressive 153-117 score on the second day to lift the prestigious trophy.

Club captain Frank Adu Jnr expressed joy for the healthy relationship and good sportsmanship between the two clubs and urged members to go the extra mile to maintain it.

“I am very happy you made it for this event, especially few weeks after we inaugurated our great club, founded in 1934. Let’s maintain the healthy relationship; here-in lies this relationship which is the potential for great businesses,” said Adu Jnr.

His Nigerian counterpart, Tony Onwu said. “The high standards in golf we are seeking to expouse are clearly demonstrated here. We are challenged by the facility; thank God those who call the shots came with us so we can replicate same or build a 2020 golf club back home.”

The Match Play was sponsored by Fuel Trade, GIHOC Distilleries and Golden Tulip.
